The Story - The Sick Lion and the Fox

One day an old lion realized that he was too old to hunt for food. The lion was sure he would soon die. He was very sad and went home. As he walked slowly home, the lion told a bird about his sad situation.

Soon everyone in the forest heard about the lion’s situation. The other animals all felt sorry for the lion. So one by one, they came to visit the lion.

The lion was old weak, but very wise. As each animal came into his home, they were easy to catch and eat. Soon the old lion became happy and fat.

One day, early in the morning, the fox came. The fox was very wise too. He slowly came close to the lion’s home. Standing outside, he asked if the lion was feeling better.

Hello, my best friend,” said the lion. “Is it you? I can’t see you very well. You are so far away. Come closer please and tell me some kind words because I am old and will die soon.”

While the lion was talking, the fox was looking closely at the ground in front of the lion’s house. Finally the fox looked up and said to the lion, “I am sorry but i must go. I am very nervous because i see the footsteps of many animals going into your home, but i see none coming out again!”

Jokes. Something to smile about.

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly, her husband burst into the kitchen. 'Careful,' he said, 'CAREFUL! Put in some more butter! Oh my gosh! You're cooking too many at once. TOO MANY! Turn them! TURN THEM NOW! We need more butter. Oh my gosh! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER? They're going to STICK! Careful. CAREFUL! I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you're cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. USE THE SALT! THE SALT!'

The wife stared at him. 'What in the world is wrong with you? You think I don't know how to fry a couple of eggs?' The husband calmly replied, 'I just wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving.'

Two elderly women were eating breakfast in a restaurant one morning. Ethel noticed something funny about Mabel's ear and she said, "Mabel, did you know you've got a suppository in your left ear? " Mabel answered, "I have a suppository?" She pulled it out and stared at it. Then she said, "Ethel, I'm glad you saw this thing. Now I think I know where my hearing aid is."

Sayings and Proverbs on the Love of Tea

Tea bags were invented in 1908 in the United States by Thomas Sullivan. He created small silk bags to give samples of tea to his customers. Some of them thought that the bags were supposed to be put directly in the tea pot, like a metal infuser, rather than emptied out. Thus, the tea bag was created by accident!

“If you are cold, tea will warm you;
if you are too heated, it will cool you;
if you are depressed, it will cheer you;
if you are exhausted, it will clam you.”
– William Gladstone

“Tea tempers the spirits and harmonizes the mind, dispels lassitude and relieves fatigue, awakens thought and prevents drowsiness, lightens or refreshes the body, and clears the perceptive faculties.” – Confucius

“Tea is drunk to forget the din of the world.” – T’ien Yiheng

“My copper kettle whistles merrily
And signals that it is time for tea.
The fine china cups are filled with the brew.
There’s lemon and sugar and sweet cream, too.
But, best of all there’s friendship, between you and me.
As we lovingly share our afternoon tea.”
– Marianna Arolin

“What better way to suggest friendliness – and to create it – than with a cup of tea?” – J. Grayson Luttrell

“Teapot is on, the cups are waiting,
Favorite chairs anticipating,
No matter what I have to do,
My friends, there’s always time for you.”
– Author Unknown

“Teatime is by its very nature a combination of small luxuries arranged in social symmetry. And although tea for one is certainly a fine thing, the addition of a circle of dear friends to share it with ensures the whole is larger than the parts.” – Author Unknown

“The music of tea is the melody that soothes me.” – Morgan Christiansen

“The path to heaven passes through a teapot.” – Ancient Proverb

“When there’s tea there’s hope.” – Sir Arthur Pinero

“Strange how a teapot can represent at the same time the comforts of solitude and the pleasures of company.” – Author Unknown

1928-1948 Early hair dryers

Hair dryers are a technology we take for granted -- how could they ever have been anything but the simple devices they are now? But, much like how the computing power in your laptop once took entire rooms to contain, the hair dryers of the '30s were massive contraptions that looked like they were stealing thoughts from your unwilling mind.

Before the invention of hair dryers, women and men would often attach hoses to the exhaust ends of vacuum cleaners to blow-dry their hair.
In 1890, French stylist Alexandre-Ferdinand Godefroy devised a contraption combining a seat with a hood connected to a gas stove. A client would sit underneath the hood while a hand crank blew hot air from the stove over her hair.
Godefroy’s hair hood dryer was widely copied and iterated upon, and became a staple of hair salons. Variants included features such as articulable nozzles and heated coils in lieu of a single helmet.
The first patent for a handheld hair dryer was granted in 1911. Early portable dryers had a few problems, though — they were heavy, produced air barely warmer than room temperature, and had an irritating habit of electrocuting users.
Salon hair dryers remained the best option until the 1970s, when handheld dryers had advanced in aesthetics, power and safety enough to be a viable alternative.

Perhaps the most freakish mad-scientist-looking beauty device of the 1920s was the permanent waving machine. Designed to give a woman a head of springy curls.  In the late 1930s, the chemical perm was invented, and soon these cumbersome machines were deemed as outdated and scrapped.

Life Story - THIEF AND A SAGE

One evening, while a monk was reciting his prayers in his room, a thief broke into his house. Point a sword at the monk, the thief threatened to take his life unless he would give him money.

The monk, not frightened by the thief, replied calmly- “You are disturbing me! The money is in that drawer, over there.” He pointed at a counter in the far corner of the room. “Help yourself,” he said, returning to his prayer.

The thief rushed to the drawer and began collecting the money.  He heard the monk call out,-“Don’t take all of it! Leave some for me to pay my tax tomorrow.”

The bugler froze in his place. It wasn’t a request but a bold demand. Nevertheless, he did as he was asked to and headed towards the door.

“Hey!” The monk shouted- “You are leaving without even thanking me for the money? How very impolite of you!”

The thief was shocked by the level of courage displayed by the monk. Unconsciously he whispered ‘thank you’ and left the room awkwardly. Later that night, he told is friend about his bizarre encounter with the monk. “I was more afraid of the monk than he was of me!” he exclaimed.

A few days later the burglar was caught. He was accused of robbery not only at the monk’s place, but also many other places.  He was taken to the court for a trial.

When the monk was called as a witness, he said- “No, this man did not steal anything from me. I gave him the money. He even thanked me for it.”

This however did not keep the thief from being locked up behind the bars. But he did get a lesser number of years than he deserved for his crime. During his time in the prison, he thought a lot about the old monk.

Years later, the thief was released from the prison. He straight away walked to the monk’s house and rang the doorbell.

The monk, upon opening the door, saw the man, who had robbed him, standing with a bag slung over his shoulder, a certain humbleness in his eye.

“Ah, I knew you would show up,” the monk laughed. He wholeheartedly welcomed the criminal into his house and prepared him for his future in the righteous path.

Real Life Inspirational Story - THOMAS EDISON AND A NOTE

One day the young Thomas Edison came home and handed a paper to his mother from his school. He told her, “My teacher gave this paper to me and told me to give it only to you.”

His mother’s eyes were tearful as she read the letter out loud to her son. “ Your son is a genius. This school is too small for him and doesn’t have good teachers for training him. Please teach him yourself.”

After years, Edison’s mother died and he was renowned as one of the greatest inventors of the century. One day he was going through his old family things. Suddenly, he noticed a folded paper in the corner of a drawer. He took it and opened it up.

On the paper was written: “Your son is addled. We won’t let him come to school any more.”

Thomas Edison cried for hours and then he wrote in his diary: “Thomas Alva Edison was an addled child that, by a hero mother, became the genius of the century.”

THE SERENITY PRAYER

GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY
TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE;
COURAGE TO CHANGE THE THINGS I CAN;
AND WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

LIVING ONE DAY AT A TIME;
ENJOYING ONE MOMENT AT A TIME;
ACCEPTING HARDSHIPS AS THE PATHWAY TO PEACE;
TAKING, AS HE DID, THIS SINFUL WORLD
AS IT IS, NOT AS I WOULD HAVE IT;
TRUSTING THAT HE WILL MAKE ALL THINGS RIGHT
IF I SURRENDER TO HIS WILL;
THAT I MAY BE REASONABLY HAPPY IN THIS LIFE
AND SUPREMELY HAPPY WITH HIM
FOREVER IN THE NEXT.
AMEN.
