On the banks of the Danube River, in the city of Budapest, Hungary, you can find 60 pairs of seasonal shoes.
On the banks of the Danube River, in the city of Budapest, Hungary, you can find 60 pairs of seasonal shoes. They were laid on the shore of the water, scattered and abandoned, as if their owners had just left them there. If you look closer, you can see that they are rusted, which were made of iron and tied to concrete.
This is a memorial in tribute to the Hungarian Jews who, in the winter of 1944-1945, were shot on the spot by members of the Cruz Flechada Party, an ally of Nazist Germany.
The monument, installed in 2005, was idealized by film director Can Togay, and created together with sculptor Gyula Pauer.
